Just spittin', all day long. Not really rain, not really snow, just sort of a light mist now and then, but the mountains are really socked in, and it's very cloudy here, too.

I read that Flagstaff got 8 to 10 inches of powder today. Nothing makes you miss home like being way from it. Can't wait to get back next week. :y:

NOT ME! I never want to go home. I am home! I heard it snowed in Eagar, too. I'm here in Oceanside, it's dusk, we have the screen doors open.

That's OK, it's not the best time of year to be in NJ. It snows enough destroy traffic, then most of it melts before you can ski on it

Well, now I am home, and there is snow. I had to call the plumber because we had colder weather than usual and we had a burst pipe. Luckily no bad damage, but I am never leaving home again without turning off the water, even in summer. This old place could flood any time. I have been lazy today but I promise to ski tomorrow and report back if the weather cooperates. There is plenty of snow, though, no worries about that! And it isn't melting because it's too danged cold. I really wish I could have stayed in California...

Woke up with a dusting. Spit snow all day, and it was starting to stick when I came in from chopping up the Christmas Tree.

There is a pattern change forecast for next week that includes a series of storms that might bring a lot of snow to us and rain to other lower places. Maybe Snow bowl will get a decent pack out of them. Its a shame they couldn't have come this week.

Looks like at least 4 separate systems, one right after the other. But the computer models aren't agreeing. So I'll predict that by Monday the 25th, Snowbowl will have gotten less than 2 feet of new snow. Not to complain about 2 feet (we can use anything we can get), but 4 storms could easily drop 6 feet on the mountain.

Two or three similar "pattern shifts" in Feb and March, and we'll end up with a good winter!

Edit: I just read the NWS Phoenix report which is ridiculous:
SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN NORTH AND EAST OF PHOENIX WHERE 5 TO 10 INCHES OF RAIN IS QUITE POSSIBLE.
WOW! If we get half of that, I'll be happy. Next week might be a great week for waterfalls in the Supes!

Ok, so this is starting to look incredible.

NWS in SoCal is forecasting upwards of 30 (yes "thirty") inches of RAIN in favored coastal mountains. And 4+ feet of snow for SoCal mtns over 6k. I hope there's still plenty of moisture left when it gets here.

Initial snow forecast for Flag is 6-10" on Monday night and 8-12" on Tuesday night, with a third "even stronger storm" due on Thursday. :y:

Up to 30 inches of rain in the upper reaches of California's coastal mountains? Holy Moses. That could be interesting considering the recent fires out there. Lots and lots of erosion.

Im hearing Flagstaff will only get a few inches of snow on monday and tuesday because it is supposed to rain alot but then when it cools down it might snow 8-12 at the next system. Snowbowl than could receive 20-40 in because of its higher elevation.

Look out SoCal, though. If this comes to pass, we'll be seeing houses sliding every which way. Another federal disaster area, etc., expensive for both the state and feds.

While it does say 30+", I don't think its really that bad. To put it in context, here's the whole paragraph from NWS.
BASED ON HISTORIC PATTERNS...THIS WEEK-LONG EVENT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE RAINFALL OF 5 TO 8 INCHES NEAR THE COAST...TO 20 OR MORE INCHES ON THE COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. TYPICALLY WETTER LOCATIONS ON THE COASTAL MOUNTAINS SLOPES COULD RECEIVE 30 OR MORE INCHES OF RAINFALL. AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS... MOSTLY ABOVE 6000 FEET...4 OR MORE FEET OF SNOWFALL IS POSSIBLE.
