And that doesn't even count the responses I contemplated, but thought better of. Probably another 5000 right there.Jim_H wrote:Over 5000 responses!

Well that's your problem right there. Live your life with no filter. It's more fun!

BTW if you remove the posts from the top five commenters on this thread, there are actually only 11 responses. So really not any more exciting than your average holiday weekend hiker assassination warning or wild/not-wildfire thread.

Top 5 Hottest Ever
... in the forecast for Sunday-Tuesday.
Seems a little far out for accurate predictions, but I think the models are better with high-pressure systems than they are with rain forecasts.
NWS Phoenix:
If you have outdoor plans over the coming weekend, stay tuned to the forecast and plan accordingly.

NWS Phoenix:
NWS Tucson:That means highs on the lower deserts ranging from 115-120! For perspective, we're looking at a 3 day stretch (Sunday-Tuesday) that will be in the top 5 all time for high temperatures at Phoenix.
NWS Flagstaff has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for elevations below 4000 feet, including Grand Canyon. Populated areas near Prescott and Payson are forecast to exceed 100 degrees. Flagstaff is forecast to reach the low to mid 90s.The hottest temperatures in over 20 years are expected on Sunday for Tucson. An excessive heat watch is now in effect for all of Southeast Arizona below 5000 feet from Sunday through Tuesday. These temperatures are deadly. Heat is Arizona’s #1 weather killer. Limit outdoor activities ...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
We are planning on doing the Hellsgate trail to Tonto Creek this weekend, got the OK from the wife weeks ago and can't pass up the opportunity...We are going to get the hiking done early in the morning and then spend the rest of the time in the creek until the sun is down. At least I won't need to bring my mummy bag.

Better change the warning at the bottom of the home page to:
It's too hot to hike, stay inside your air-conditioned den until Fall...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I'm rooting for 123 on Monday.
With 26 years of warming (up about .7°F) since 122, I think getting to 123 should be a no-brainer.

Everyone went out of town to escape the heat. That is my guess.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I was working. At Yavapai Point yesterday at 10 a.m. it was surprisingly warm. When I got my tour group to Cameron for lunch, then whew, it was pretty hot down there. At home in Williams, I was very grateful I had been able to purchase a new roof A/C unit for my motorhome this year. Previous to this year I had only a fan. I was able to turn off the A/C at bedtime, though, and right now at 5:30 a.m. it's 55 degrees.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
High Temperature at my house yesterday was 117 degrees. That is the second highest reading since record keeping began in 1980.
Top 3 are: 118 on June 26, 1990 ..... 117 on June 19, 2016 ..... 117 on July 28, 1995
Also, another dramatic sunrise in Tucson this morning through a layer of smoke from the Cedar Fire south of Show Low.

@rwstorm
I got you beat! NWS is sending someone over this morning to check the calibration but assuming everything checks out, it'll be a new all-time record.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
@chumley - The one on my car got up to 135 yesterday. Highest I've ever seen it. Those ten minutes before the A/C kicked in and had any effect were brutal.

The 15 day forecast takes us through July 4th now. Nothing below 110
