Towers has come in so high so often in the past 2-3 years it’s difficult to believe it’s actually accurate.

It's storming in NJ, too. There's been a possible tornado and intense thunderstorms. WNBC (NYC) reported 635 lightning strikes in the last fifteen minutes in the viewing area.

We got skunked out here - a measly 10th of an inch! And the birding community pretty well got skunked too - despite much anticipation, there was no great fallout of pelagic birds reported. Boo.

@cactuscat
This was never forecast to be a SE AZ event. All the models showed central, western, and northern Arizona, but SE AZ was always left out. You guys had a much more substantial system a few weeks ago.
At least it does appear that the all, all important Salt-Verde upper basin sites recorded impressive totals, for our precious reservoirs. Soon, there will be more cotton and alfalfa!

The local "official" Pima County rain gauge across the street from my subdivision had us at .98" for the past 3 days. But up the street from me off of Tangerine Road they recorded 1.57" and 1.46". Go across town to the east side and they barely got hit with .20" readings all over the place.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
@cactuscat Well, you can be insulted if you choose. You're commenting on it and complaining, "skunked out here" implying you were expecting rain. Just makes no sense to be upset about something when you were never forecast to get it in the first place. The only reason I can think you would be upset is you thought other wise. Why mention it in the first place if you're going to be insulted when someone responds accordingly, just so you can then respond by condescending in a gender oriented manner? Perhaps I am wrong here, but the use of terms like "mansplaing" seem intended to convey that.

I wasn't "complaining" or "upset", I was simply commenting on the weather because that's what we do on this silly thread.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I am glad that I hiked up Humphreys Peak last Sunday instead of this Sunday: the mountain forecast is predicting almost 19" of snow on Humphreys from Saturday night through Sunday: https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks ... casts/3851
EDIT: The forecast is now calling for 44" of snow Saturday night and Sunday...that hardly seems possible, so I am skeptical of this mountain forecast

23.5 inches possible, but I'm horrible at math so it'll probably be a record ten feetcurrently wrote:Saturday: A 50 percent chance of snow showers after 11am. Some thunder is also possible. Increasing clouds, with a high near 43. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday Night: Snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 25. Breezy, with a southwest wind 16 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Sunday: Snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. High near 31. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 7 to 11 inches possible.
Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind around 11 mph. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Columbus Day: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. Partly sunny, with a high near 33. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 11pm. Some thunder is also possible. Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

I guess......seems there is always a tendency to overestimate at the bookends of the season. It will melt either way.

@joebartels There’s a button to change it to F. One easy click!
Also it’s October. Even if 48” of snow falls, the ground is warm. It’s melting 1” of snow per hour from below. So it melts almost as fast as it falls. I’d be surprised if more than 8-10” sits on the ground at any given time this weekend. Which is still pretty cool!!
