Happy First day of Summer!
Perhaps it's not "2020" that's been the problem. Perhaps it was just "spring"? That's over now, so let's hope for the best?

Do I sense a bit of sarcasm in the use of the word lucky?SpiderLegs wrote:Think I'm going to be in the lucky 30% of people that catch it who deal with it on and off for life.
Other than the fact I'll be carrying the calcified remains in my lungs for the rest of my life, thankfully I have experienced no ongoing issues in the 12 years since I had it.

@CannondaleKid - Oh just a bit. My case of Valley Fever really took it out of me. I'll never be 100% again.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Well, I am actually hoping I never get it if I have not already had an asymptomatic case. I regret doing that hike now, but did not know what was coming. My eyes have bothered me ever since, too, be from dust, smoke, allergies, or sunflower leaf fibers, something is irritating them. It began with the dust.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I biked a 10 mile loop in Usery Park every day after work for years so I was told it was very likely my valley fever came about as a result of eating-the-dust (inhaling the spores) raised by the construction of the new housing communities (roads and houses) in Gilbert when it was gaining 2,000 new residents a year.Jim_H wrote:It began with the dust.

I wonder what the CDC recommendations are for dealing with the dangers of sunflower leaf fibers?
Stop crying and just go do the hike.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I believe this would fall under the category of PM10.
Guidelines are found here: https://www.cdc.gov/air/particulate_matter.html
And a nice infographic too! https://www.cdc.gov/air/infographics/pr ... tivity.htm

@LindaAnn
Well we live in a country with over 300 million citizens of varying levels of education and knowledge. What seems logical to one may not seem logical to another. See signs like "pack it in, pack it out" "no littering" "don't cut switchbacks" "camp on durable surfaces" etc. etc. etc. I don't think it hurts the person who already knows something to see a sign made for the person who does not.

We who live here have it, dormant or otherwise. I would doubt that this particular instance brought it on. And don't blame dust because you can't see the wind that it and a multitude of other particles travel on. Another thing, as a Kansan, I'm offended that you're trying to tie the sunflower to this whole fiasco.
Most earthlings get allergies around this time of year and if I were a doctor, I'd suggest that's what you're experiencing. Just sayin.
A monsoon is brewing, so I have to go now.

I'm pretty sure I caught Valley Fever from the same spot in my yard that my dog caught it. Well, it looks like the higher end of the scale will win out.chumley wrote: ↑May 29 2020 1:37 pm I read that the models are having a tough time with temperature forecasts next week. By Wednesday the models range from pleasantly cool highs as low as just 91 to craziness as high as 114. It will be interesting to see which way the forecast leans as the models get a better grasp on things.

As someone who also resided in the Sunflower State, I must point out that the song "Dust in the Wind" was written by a band named Kansas. Coincidence? I don't think so.
