@big_load
Looking at the radar estimated totals map, most places look to be within the normal big rain event range, with a few big time outliers. The Hudson Valley got hammered. West Point lost an “s” and Peekskill too.

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
Yes, the impact is a bit puzzling. Despite near-drought conditions prevailing well into June, the last few rainy weeks must have saturated the ground. The typical 10" downpour tends happen later in the summer or fall, when the soil moisture is on the decline.

I got rained on lightly Saturday at Madera Canyon ... and poured on for an hour this morning up on Mt Graham - it was great!

I've been back in the greater valley of the death orb for about 15 hours now. Is it over yet?

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
As this brutal heat wave continues, PHX broke the all-time record for it's highest low temperature, dropping to only 97 degrees.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
@joebartels The official readings for Phoenix are taken at Sky Harbor Airport (PHX). This table shows current readings and updates to include the high and low temperatures for both 6- and 24-hour periods: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=KPHX
The minute-by-minute official temperature gauge reading can be found here: https://www.weather.gov/psr/HiResASOS
(Note: the National Weather Service instruments observe readings in tenths of a degree celsius, and then convert that temperature to Fahrenheit in the published table because the American public understands that scale better. As a result of C to F rounding, sometimes the minute-by-minute readings shown here can result in reading that is off by 1 Fahrenheit degree from the official temperature. TLDR, PM me if you want it explained further).
In this case, of course, the temperature won't be official until midnight tonight. But unless an asteroid hits Gila Bend or Humphreys erupts and the ash cloud blocks the sun, there's simply no way that the temperature will drop below 97 between now and midnight.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I've been watching the streak with great apprehension. It would be awful if power grid were as unreliable as it is here.

We just keep opening the dams up a little bit more. It should keep working great until there's no water left!big_load wrote:power grid

Finally got some precip and a little cyclonic type action; the neighbor has two trees down but so far my house is ok.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison
I was nerding at the nerditorium and observed that based on pre-2008 guidelines, PHX broke the threshold for start of the monsoon on July 11. It was the first of two three-day periods with a dew point of 55 or above that we've had so far. A 7th day has also qualified. The remaining 9 days in that period have been below 55.
In Tucson, under the dew point guidelines, the monsoon started on July 9. All but one day since then has remained above the 54 degree threshold. Unlike PHX, TUC has actually received some rainfall, though is still running at about 33% of what is normal by July 26.

My wife has some explaining to do for everyone on HAZ!
She left our portable electric oven on, which is located on our back porch for the last eight days by mistake!
The temperatures will most likely be cooler this week as I just discover this and turned it off.
