The grasslands between the Santa Rita and Whetstone Mountains have really been taking a beating this fire season. There was the 47,000 acre Sawmill Fire followed by the 15,000 acre Lizard Fire, not to mention numerous smaller fires in the Sonoita area that were triggered by dry lightening. Last night the Encino Fire, presumably sparked by lightening, started near Sonoita and has now spread to Coronado National Forest land as it quickly grew to 1,300 acres.

Local news tonite said 5 homes had burned near Sonoita.
