How Much Food For R2R2R?
So I'm looking at almost 4 pounds of food piled up on my dining room table for a one day R2R2R hike on Friday and it seems a bit much. Every time I went to the store the past few weeks I'd pick up a bar, gel or other sports nutrition item and now I need to pare things down.
Realistically how much food should I bring?

Just have an apple before you start and you'll be fine.SpiderLegs wrote:how much food should I bring

@SpiderLegs
I think you've answered your own question. You know what you need to eat over a hike like that better than anybody else does.
Can't you buy snacks at Phantom Ranch? I've never stopped there so I don't know. But I think that's a good backup option if you feel like you're eating more food than you decided to bring! A $20 bill doesn't weigh much!

The beer is always cold and that’s what I prehydrate on before heading up.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Re: How Much Food For R2R2R?
Hard part for me was forcing myself to eat enough. By the time I was halfway up NK, my body just wasn't interested in trying to consume food, despite a definite need for energy replenishment. But yeah, time it right to be at Phantom when they're open and there's plenty of food to get the job done. Hell, a few pounds of peanut M&M's might just be my primary fuel next time, and they have them for sale and take plastic =)

If you are planning to do it in just under 6 hours
, here's the recipe from the FKT recordholder:
Nutrition: 1x Apple Cinnamon Raisin Huppy Bar for breakfast, 6x Powder mix into bottles (250 cal, 60g sugar, caffeine, BCAAs), ~2x gels (100 cal, 20g sugar, caffeine, BCAAs), 7x caffeine pills (caffeine blend)

Re: How Much Food For R2R2R?
Proally too late for this but I can not tell you how may people I saw ditching food at the picnic tables at Phantom while running"/"rushing" their way thru the canyon on the ole R2R2R.......WTF people!!! Oh and then watching the wild animals clearing off the table after they scrammed outa there.
Sad - very very very sad. Oh well their loss.... ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)
