There seems to be some misconception about hunting "season".

Hunting is a thing on each and every day of the year (yes, all 365 of them)!

There are countless species of game that can be taken, and the seasons cover the entire year.

Hunters take a lot more than just deer and elk in the fall.

Hunting in Arizona is managed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Dates and information for the various game species are available on the Arizona Game and Fish website:

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

You'll need to look up the hunting seasons on the regulations pages (those 2 big pdfs, on the page Chumley linked to, one has elk, the other has deer). Contrary to what Chumley said, you're pretty much looking for deer/elk seasons on the Highline. There are hunters out for other game, but numbers are way lower and they're spread over longer seasons.

To find the game units, you used to be able to check this map: https://hikearizona.com/map.php?QX=4230 but it looks like the recent map updates made it harder to see which unit is which. Double-click in the unit, and it will show the unit number to the left. Anyone know if there is a way to get those labelled automatically? When you double-click, it automatically zooms in, which makes that an unwieldy way to see the units.

@sajor75 It doesn’t really matter if it is hunting season in that area or not, nobody is hunting right along the Highline. If for some reason you are worried though, Wear an orange T-shirt, and don’t give it another thought. Go do the hike and enjoy yourself.
Stop crying and just go do the hike.

I've never had any issues in Arizona. Unlike living for a couple of years in Pennsylvania and it seems like every male over the age of 10 has a gun and is in the woods for the month of deer season. Lived across the street from the Hershey plant and the only days they close the factory were Thanksgiving, Christmas and the first day of deer season.

I agree. There's a big difference in density. Mental density, too. One of the first casualties of bear season in NJ this year was a family dog, shot by crossbow (supposedly mistaken for a coyote, which are fair game).
