overnighter with water

Post by bryanmertz »

This is a little last minute - but a couple friends and myself are looking to do an overnighter this Saturday 5/31.

I was looking at Hells Gate, West Fork, etc. I would love some input from others on a good <10 mile round trip hike that has some water on it. Also - since it's getting a tad warm (105+ yikes) it should be Sedona/ Flagstaff/ Payson/ Rim/ Canyon etc.

As usual - everyones input is welcome and appreciated.

Try Reavis Ranch. Start from the south and its 13.6mi round trip. Start from the north and its about 18mi r.t.. You can find plenty of filterable water in Reavis Creek and plenty of shade at the ranch. Best overnighter i've been on yet.

You could try West Fork from the top (off Woody Mountain Road, SW of Flag) exiting @ the West Fork trailhead in Sedona. (this would involve a shuttle, of course) It has water after mile 4 or so, and is about 12 miles total. There will be 3 or 4 pools to swim; none longer than 50' , if memory serves. There are numerous overhangs and caves along the route, so you could even leave the tents at home.

Horton Springs gets my vote. It's part of the Highline trail and has plenty of filterable water!

My son was at East Clear Creek this past wekend. Lots of good water. Nice swimming holes. He caught a 21 inch trout and 7 more pan size if your into the fishing thing. Most important is it was Memorial Day weekend and he didn't see another soul.
