I am from Alaska and am going to be visiting the Arizona area in November. Want to go to the Grand Canyon and do some photography...looks like its the South Rim area only, depending upon the snow and ice. Also going to Page and want to photograph a few of the slot canyons. This will be the non-peak times, it would seem, to travel to these areas, has anyone been to either of these two areas in November? If so any suggestions on what to see, fees, permits, tours...I dont really like guided tours, but if its the only way to see Page waterholes or slot canyons...what do ya do. Anyway all of you experts out there let me know you experiences. Been to a million websites and have gotten some really good info, but personal experience from you all seems the way to go most of the time. Thanks,
My first trip to Grand Canyon was in November. I hiked in with my brother on Thanksgiving day. We camped overnight and hiked out the following day. It was cold with about 6 inches of snow at the rim. It got down to the 20s at night on the rim. Down at our camp it only ventured into the low 50s/ high 40s that night. We didn't even pitch a tent, just slept under the stars. As far as page goes, antellope canyon and water holes are pretty easy to find on your own, so don't give the tour guides your money. You will have to pay the Indians a fee to get in, but they will be waiting for you at the trailhead.
You'll drive by Waterholes Canyon on your way to Page. Antellope canyon is a few miles up Hwy 98 (I think that's the Hwy) right before you get into page.

I have done a backpacking trip down the Grand Canyon in December. You have picked a really good time to visit it. Seeing that you are from Alaska, you will probably like the temps better in November than in the middle of the summer. If you hike down it, it will be nice cool hiking weather.

re. slot canyons & good photo ops.....You might also consider Buckskin Gulch/Paria and "the Wave" (Coyote Buttes North) about 30 miles west of Page on 89.
