Hammock use

Many do use hammocks, but finding a sufficiently sturdy prickly pear cactus will be a challenge in some locations.

But seriously, I'll defer to more experienced "hangers." We just did Passage 15 and I can't imagine finding a place in either of our campsites. (Yeah, two nights, we're kinda slow.)

I'd love to see someone using one under the bridges on the Colonel Devin segment.

I just posted on a similar thread. you frikkin' hangers are getting out of control.. pretty soon REI will go out of business due to lack of tent sales!

@te_wa Trust me if I could I’d be in my tent. I just had my knees replaced and can’t kneel down yet. Hopefully at a future daye

In AZ you need to be creative, between rocks, rock-tree, tree-fence post, tree-log braced in rocks and yes tree-tree. I am prepared to be on the ground, but have not yet.

FYI - I have only done a couple sections of the AZT but know there are sections that a hammock would be tough to utilize or spend hours/miles searching.

Would y'all mind revisiting this topic?

My husband and I are planning a SOBO section hike in the Fall and are trying to figure out what sections might be best for us. We have several weeks, but expect to be very slow.

We much prefer hammocking, so can y'all give us insight about what sections are easier to hammock in, and which ones are absolutely impossible? We'll gear up for tent camping if necessary, but we already have the equipment to hammock.

I've got plenty of kin in Texas and they assured me @mgmbaker should of addressed us as "all y'all" as that is the plural use. Y'all is singular. :-) :-)

Y'all is both singular and plural unless you're cityfolk.

Y'all is both singular and plural unless you're cityfolk.

I've mostly heard "all y'all" used for particular emphasis when suggesting that all y'all could do something that most people would rather not.

not in any way objective, but all y'all'll prolly have a hard time finding suitable trees below 4,500' elevation. unless in riparian areas, and a few hidden pockets here and there, the deserts just don't have the possibility to hang along the entire 800 mile stretch. choose some hikes that are (for heat concerns) over 7000' and you should find plenty of ponderosa, with pockets of bigtooth, oak, and boxelder. aspens up higher @ ~9000'. I wouldn't hang from sycamore tho.. dang widow makers I tells ya.

"all y'all'll". just go with it..
