Haunted Canyon Conditions

Post by AkaTavy »

Has anyone done Haunted Canyon #203 in the past few weeks? I'm concerned water levels or mud will make it a miserable hike.
Thanks.

My girlfriend and I hiked Haunted Loop last Saturday and Sunday. This was our first time on this trail but it seemed fine. There were obviously lots of creek crossings but we experienced very little mud. We thought it was great!

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings

@JakeG
How deep were the creek crossings? I'll have some younger teenagers with me.
Thanks.

@AkaTavy
We were able to rock hop across every crossing except the very first one (we started from the east side). We took our boots off for the first crossing and the water came up to just below my knees (I'm 5'9"). Of course the creek could be running a bit higher now with this week's rain. Almost every crossing after the first one were less than a foot deep.

It looks like you caught it at the right time. The water level in Pinto Creek has spiked again:

Went there today, creek was up, all crossings were over the knees. Made it to the canyon where the tape is and you have to go up stream in the creek. We quit there and had lunch on the hill to the right (above the tape). Water is cold, boots were full :-)

That beats trying to go up over the top where the tape is.
