RS Route + Triplog

A work in progress, months in development surfacing recently - keeping HAZ Fresh

Example is urban overkill for most and not the most becoming format.
Nevertheless this example triplog touches on key points.
For those that review the following in full I'm open to thoughts and/or ideas

Aside from posting a Route needed for an Official Route, why post a RS Route AND a triplog?
please review the following before responding

triplogs started or posted in full from RS embed the route in the triplog.

Aside from less of a burden on data objects stored...
- integrates triplog directly to the map for a new/extra way to browse
- most would post 2 triplogs PLUS 2 routes... 1 seems easier than 4 posts
~ example was merged in RS before posting
~ instead of 2 urban hikes think 3 day backpack merged right in RS
~~ editing tracks before final post has been an option for over a week now
~~ these routes do display in user's (routes tab) mini-map(user only expandable) and Find in View mine/following on the map

Currently best from desktop/laptop to understand, click "view route" in the red Route Scout block ( link far above )
- triplog is in the left pane (open/close orange tab)
- considering the triplog note mileage/timestamp to be a simple ⨀ that would position the map on tap
- red arrows on elevation profile scroll previous/next triplogs by date
~ public sees public / user sees user's hidden too
~~ considering current-continuous participating/donating viewable as a new posting option

Last weekend I cleaned poor reception from lunch in an alcove and added a bazillion Eagle/Hank Waypoints.

The merge option is great. I used it a few weeks ago for a short 2 day backpack, and it was very convenient to post all as one.

I guess I haven’t seen it since it hasn’t come up for me lately, but at what point/where in the posting process can you edit the route before the final post? While still in RS? Or in the triplog screen? Obviously I don’t know where to look to do that.

I like your last bullet point too. I get the reasoning behind it, and I would use that option in some cases, although it does start to feel like information would start to get closed off, or partitioned only to certain types of users. A couple other post viewing/sharing options that have crossed my mind is the ability to hide triplogs to all except for your partners on the hike. For example, I hide most of my workout triplogs, but if I hike one with another HAZ user, it would be nice if they could view that triplog even if I hide it for everyone else. Another thought would be the option to select to have a triplog permanently viewable only to following/followers without the 1 week option.

here is the current layout
RS Route in Triplog - Edit Route
RS Route in Triplog - Edit Route
RS Route edit is only available before posting, same as posting a GPS Route

Ah, I guess I’m blind, that’s easy enough to notice!

Posted this a week ago. Last call on the question before moving forward.
Aside from posting a Route needed for an Official Route, why post a RS Route AND a triplog?

I liked the "last weekend".
but I guess I'm not understanding if you are doing this all on the phone or are transferring to the computer first and then adding.
I like pulling up the route and then having everything else right there altho I think I prefer the CAL topo.

But like I said, I'm not sure I get what's up.

my bad, too wordy with unrelated aspects
the question is simply
Aside from posting a Route needed for an Official Route, why post a RS Route AND a triplog?

When a triplog is started from RS it embeds the route. It is hidden unless the user specifically sets it to public.
Many still post a triplog & a GPS Route. Which is double posting. Before taking away the option to post a route from RS I need to understand the concerns, if any.

best I could figure and clear up
~~ editing tracks before final post has been an option for over a week now
~~ these routes do display in user's (routes tab) mini-map(user only expandable) and Find in View mine/following on the map
The only major concern I can think of is "I don't want to post a triplog on a tiny device"
Which is understandable. Though if you are tapping a button to post the GPS Route, why not tap triplog then finish it on a desktop/laptop with stats filled in and route included?

2 Key things I'm trying to accomplish
1) make RS easier with only 1 option to post
The masses using RS do not understand Route Cloud or triplogs or HAZ for that matter. They MIGHT share if it was just share instead of three non socially understood options (+Add triplog / Route Cloud / +Add GPS Route)

2) Avoid what is essentially double posting. More taps for the contributor and more taps for the community reviewing.

So, with the proposed change, I won't be able to just post a route from RS? Instead, I will have to open a draft triplog with the route embedded; then, if I don't want to type triplog on my phone (which I most definitely don't want to do), I'll have to go online and finish the triplog before the route gets posted?

@ddgrunning
in draft you can edit tracks/waypoints ( aka view ) the route before posting public
the public will see it after posted if set public

is there a need/scenario for others to see the route before the triplog?

@joebartels
Yep, this will work just fine: why not tap triplog then finish it on a desktop/laptop with stats filled in and route included?

I've always found it very convenient to post the route first from RS, and then choose that option on my laptop from recent routes and directly link my pics and triplog. I suppose a draft triplog will achieve the same result, although an incomplete triplog will exist until I get to it, which sometimes might be a day or 2

I just tried the triplog/route post from RS for three hikes I just logged. However, when I went online, only the first of the three showed up as an unfinished triplog. I can't find the other two on HAZ now. :-k

@ddgrunning
draft in queue limit is 1
just tested on Android & iOS to be sure
posting another without finishing the draft in queue throws a notification
triplog already in Queue
Go finish now?
Cancel stops the action
Ok goes to the triplog in queue

@joebartels
Hmm. Not sure why I didn't see that notification before. Is it hard to up the queue limit to 2 or 3? Would be preferable to having to go back and forth to RS to upload multiple routes.

thx for trying it out

more drafts isn't jumping out now but I'll keep that in mind

Combining routes from within RS limits you to 5000 total points. On a multi-day trip, it is very easy to get over 5000 points very quickly. I hit the limit in less than 20 miles (iPhone) h/t @ MM ;) . Is there a way to up the limit for combined tracks without causing problems with phone/app memory and performance, etc.?

yes will do, thx
track limit is 10,001 to blow away Garmins wimpy 10,000
file pt limit should currently be 15,001 but sounds like there is a bug

btw, recent additions
- these type of RS Routes may be edited for a few days after posting ( good luck doing that with a posted route )
- populates in triplog "route" dropdown
- geocode a photoset just like old school posted routes [ example ]
- populates in user profile "routes" tab

My experience with this is the opposite. Not sure if that is an intentional change or not.

Edit: This option might be nice as a user-selectable default within RS.

I used the Note function up at Glacier (to note that we had lunch at the old Three Mile Cabin Trail), but only one time. I should have used it more but I only just noticed it. I haven't seen it translated as I haven't uploaded any of those routes yet. Anyway, I think I'll like it.
