0.19 miles - 7:16 am
Wow, this canyon is pleasantly cool in the morning.
0.47 miles - 7:23 am
Now out of the natural canyon shade into sunlight, almost to creek dip-cross-up. Two weeks from the longest day of the year, let's keep this secret on the down low.
1.04 miles - 7:39 am
Heading into the hike I wanted to listen to Bruce Arians on sportsradio so I had the earbuds. When it was over I took 'em out and forgot to turn the volume down. Just passed two older gentleman. Wouldn't you know it, this app recording my hike starts singing roadrunner...lol Joy, now I'm "that" guy. Luckily SpiderLegs wasn't around to scold... whew!
Last year I helped a ranger with a keep volume low sign in another preserve so I feel my karma balance is still in check.
1.47 miles - 7:51 am
Heading down Telegraph. Same as I wrote in the 2000 guide, good mornings galore. Everybody, all ages, simply phenomenal.
1.83 miles - 7:58 am
Ghost Town-ish. Still too many people for me to wobble-jog the flats and easy grades.
1.95 miles - 8:01 am
Beautiful Smiles. These folks have great dental plans.
2.20 miles - 8:06 am
Mmmm, someone has mesquite blazing in their fireplace.
Telegraph Trailhead
Construction fencing is down. Still a large crew doing touch-ups. Porta-potties are still the game but looks like it'll be opening soon.
2.60 miles - 8:17 am
2 green fairy pooch wag bags ready for pick up. Self resolving issue, apparently the owners attack each other with golf clubs.
2.78 miles - 8:20 am
Now heading back up Telegraph I can see maybe 10 hikers scattered evenly up to the saddle.
Which I can appreciate because it's darn right chili until the Mercury grazes 90.
3.06 miles - 8:26 am
What we have here is a pack of tibbers! She would love the morning community ambience.
Almost back to Saddle
Apparently a one-and-done crowd, no takers on "see ya next lap"... boy tough crowd
Kiwanis Return
Warming up. Just 1 hiker ahead of me the entire way down.
Piestewa
Parking slots now painted at Navajo. Summit lot still not paved. Sign up that the entrance lot will be closed for 8 weeks.
