Catalina Fire-Catalina State Park

Post by PrestonSands »

The northwest side of Catalina State Park is on fire tonight, with flames easily visible from Oracle Road. Likely affecting the 50 Year Trail area from my observation. From KVOA Tucson:
A new wildfire is burning east of Oracle and Rancho Vistoso.

Golder Ranch Fire officials say the Catalina Fire is slowly moving south. No structures are threatened at this time and there are currently no evacuations in place.

I was out walking the neighborhood last night and wondering who had the big campfire going on in their backyard. My house smells like smoke this morning.

Slurry bomber was doing laps over my house. Appears they hit it hard and early and looks like the planes are finished already.

Is this Preston's way of telling me not to poach Mount Kimbal on Wednesday?

According to InciWeb and friend's that live close to the park, the fire is contained to about 60 acres. Mostly in and along the CDO wash.

And to close this thread up, the park reopened this morning with a warning to watch the burn area around the CDO wash.
