Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
This road is closed except to residents. If you have a permit for this side of Aravaipa I would check in with BLM. The residents south east of the fire and north of Aravaipa are in GO status. Klondyke area residents are now in READY status.

Oh well, it was probably going to be too hot to use my Aravaipa permit next week anyhow.

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
We had permits for the west entrance for tomorrow but someone from the BLM called us about the closure and said our permit was cancelled. I was thinking of not going with the evil heat, anyway.

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
Klondyke and Aravaipa communities are now on GO status and the area ranches. Why do I have a bad feeling for the far northern end of the Galiuros too---

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
It seems unusual for there to be much growth in a wildfire in this state that moves from west to east. Especially in this case where that also features typography that isn't typically ideal for uncontrollable fire growth (downhill).

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
@chumley Was thinking that too. East to west movement is rare. Noticed a big plume on Pinnacle yesterday afternoon, which disappeared later...maybe plume collapse caused a strong westward outflow?

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
@PrestonSands We’ve had some atypical weather with afternoon storms moving straight west and collapsing. The outflows have certainly not been helpful.

@chumley
Inciweb reports it is generally grass and understory (and burning the 6ft tall chapparel brush)...grass fires spread fast downhill compared to non-grass fires.

@PrestonSands
I just got the call from Riley at BLM - she said the closure is in effect until Monday, but may be extended ... I'm not officially canceled yet.

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
Based on the most recent MODIS+VIIRS it looks like this one is growing to the northwest to engulf more of the wilderness with a separate flank that is actively growing to the southwest toward Klondyke. Assuming that this is a scorched earch burn then the Santa Theresas should be a moonscape within a few days if the weather doesn't let up. Although a long-shot I could definitely see a couple of paths that this could take into Aravaipa Canyon as well.

@andrewp
If it gets remotely close to Aravaipa Canyon, they'll start a burnout operation at the west entrance to protect the private property to the west.

@ShatteredArm
There's a whole lot of private property at the east end that I think they'll work on long before they consider anything on the west end.

Apparently the closure has been extended (no surprise) - just got a cancelation/refund notice.

Re: Aravaipa Klondyke road closed for Pinnacle Fire
Klondyke/ Aravaipa residents can go back home. Black Rock area remains on Go status. I cannot find it the Aravaipa Klondyke road is open yet, however with the residents allowed to go home I imagine it will open soon.

The news release from the Pinnacle Fire managers didn't specify. Check Rec.gov for permits.
