Tempe Town Lake

Post by Nighthiker »

Spent the morning bicyling around Tempe including the Town Lake. They need to landscape around the lake, it reminds me of a flooded gravel pit.

Was there last week & the place evoked the same feel. I think the place has quite a way to go before it becomes a nice destination .....at least its a start....

I think they are waiting for more developers to take interest before they start landscaping the area. There is (or will be) a lot of construction on the lakeside so it might be counterproductive to put in plants only to have to take them out again when they build condos.

Correct. Remember that when the lake was initially planned we were in the middle of a huge upswing in the economy. The thought was that developers would jump all over the chance to build near the lake. Well, the bottom dropped out of the economy and the developers never showed. They are progressing slowly now, but it will still be several more years before it becomes even half of what the initial vision encapsulated.

They want both. I think the north side is expected to be mostly condos, but they are building a marina down by Papago Stable. The south is supposed to be offices, fine dining, and upper-end shops, kind of an extenuation of mill ave.
