"Found" an expensive DSLR camera on the Barnhardt Trail

Post by TooOld2Hike_EP »

Not really "found," as it was clear that the owner left it on the trail after the neck strap broke. (About a mile south of the MDT.)

I packed it down.

You can have it back if you can tell me the brand and model.
Be careful. It really is "a jungle out there."

Any nice photos on the memory card?

No memory card. He/She left the battery in. And the camera was in the "On" when I found it. (But no power.)

I don't know if the camera still works. I assume that it fell when the strap broke. (Although I don't see any obvious impact damage.)

Anyway, I think the camera and lens combo sells for about $1000. Although I don't understand why someone would cart a heavy DSLR up a trail when modern day smart phones can take as-good-as photos. Even if it didn't weigh so much, it is tremendously bulky.

I accidentally submitted the above post and it will not let me delete it or edit it for some reason. Anyway, perhaps people can suggest several other places you could post this information. Anyway it was very kind of you to post it here.

If the memory card was removed, it’s possible the camera was deliberately abandoned—broken, water damage, too heavy, etc. They probably took the only piece of equipment of value (memory card) and left the rest behind.
Stop crying and just go do the hike.
