Cattle in camp

Post by Pivo »

Not only are they annoying and potentially disruptive, not to mention the huge cow pies they leave, has anyone encountered them eating spent coffee grounds? A group came into camp yesterday morning and went to the fire ring and were eating the coffee and Aeropress filters.

I asked two friends that raise cattle, they had no knowledge.

This thread brought back memories. As a teenager, a friend and I camped on a farm with a nice pond and woods. Sure, there were plenty of cattle out there, but they weren't really interested in the woods - until a downpour unleashed in the middle of the night. The ability of our Korean war surplus tent to resist the rain became much less of a concern than its ability to withstand a herd of cattle crowding in to shelter. We had to get out and stand up in the rain to avoid getting treated like just another patch of ground.

They didn't mess with our food, though.

Sequel to Cocaine Bear - Caffeine Cow?
Just don't put trash in fire rings. 🤷

@cactuscat
It’s burned every evening if there’s no fire restrictions. Better than it going to a landfill to sit and not breakdown.

[ triplog ] Day 1 was all about the cows. And as in the comments, I started throwing things at them when they went after my ropes and canyoneering harness on day 3. They were tasting and nibbling on everything! Photos also tell the story.

We also had some problem with horses at the HAZFest up in the Flagstaff area. They were just like the cows, having to taste and harass everything. We should have called it Ropefest. There was all kinds of rope and ribbon and twine strung out everywhere trying to keep the horses away from everything.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"
