I've been gaining a little weight over the past two weeks. But I haven't been eating more. On the contrary, I've been eating less. (Haven't felt hungry.)
And I've been exercising more since the weather broke, making more backpack training hikes. (More frequent, more weight, and more mileage.)
And, TMI ( as the kids say) - I'm pooping less.
What's going on?
Well, I've been taking "Super Papaya" enzyme. (Protease, Amylase, Lipease.)
If TL;DR, I suggest that older backpackers take some enzymes along on their overnighters to get the max benefit out of our meager meals. (Over-the-counter, on shelf stuff. I.e., a Supplement.)
An elderly widow that I take care of has Pancreatic Enzyme Deficiency. As a result, she has to take enzymes to digest her food. About two weeks ago I thought "Hmm... what's the harm? I might try these."
Apparently I am not producing enough enzymes myself as I approach 70 years old. Chewing one tab with dinner apparently is causing me to digest my food better, giving me more calories. A good thing when on trail.
And apparently not leaving as much undigested food to eliminate. An unexpected perk on the trail.
