New lasers help uncover remains of roads at Chaco Cultural National Historical Park

You could walk along an ancient Chaco road and not know it.

To a studied eye, there might be signs: a stripe of rocks here, a depression there. Some areas might have broken pieces of pottery sprinkled by the Chaco people — “a Hansel and Gretel situation,” said one researcher who studies roads in the area of at Chaco Cultural National Historical Park — letting walkers today know that they’re on the right path.
