I-19 is the only American highway that fully measures distance in kilometers, a relic of a failed effort in the 1970s for the U.S. to adopt the metric system. Some 50 years later, the kilometer countdown remains.
“They’re not using gallons and miles in North Korea. They’re using the metric system—so are Iran and China. I can’t imagine why we’d want any of that in our country,” Tucker Carlson said in an interview.

Right now there is a movement afoot to change it to miles but that is being contested. I think it would be a nice mini education effort if they simply posted the miles below or above the kilometers if they are hell bent on doing it.
