My wife and I will be in Tucson in mid april and are looking for great hikes and camping in the Tucson area. We'll be driving down from Seattle and plan to visit Bryce Canyon and Zion. On the way home we're looking forward to visiting the ruins in Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, but for the better part of a week we'd like to get some sun and desert hikes in around Tucson as my Folks live in Marana.
Any hidden jewels? Maybe a little less traveled?Whats your favorite camping spot(s)?
While we're at it, anything I should be aware of during that time of year besides the usual desert hiking information?

The trail index lists about 30 hikes in the Tucson region. The index is very user friendly! I'm sure you can find a few good ones in there. Personally I can recommend the Sabino Canyon area, however it tends to get crowded on the weekends. The 'other side' of the mountain has Catalina State park with trails heading into the mountains from the north side. Tucson has tons of options...check with the Summit Hut when you get into town, the guys there can offer their knowledge on local trails.
Hope this helps...

Hi. I was in the Tucson are March 13-19 this year. I hiked first in the Tucson mts.Mt Wasson. Relatively easy hike. The Arizona Sonora Desrt Museum was excellellent, I would highly recomment it.Was dry in Arizona this winter. Only place I saw water was in Sabino Canyon. I did Hutch's Pool, enjoyable hike. Also Finger Rock Trail. Excelent, but difficult hike.
Saw only 2 people on my way back down. Most people hike the first mile.
Nic view, rocs, etc. Am going back again this month. Santa Ritas and Rincos are more remote. What I planon doin this time. ENJOY!
