Tucson Hiking

Post by Marc LaBelle »

Can anyone tell me, or others who are interested, what the status is on hiking in Tucson. I was wondering if the fires from this past year have made any of the trails close down, or burned to the point that there is nothing to see.
I just don't want to hike in an area that should be left alone for regrowth or rebuilding.

Thank You.

The last I heard the trails affected by the Aspen fire on Mt Lemmon are all closed- anything out of Marshall Gulch, Wilderness of Rocks, etc. Not sure about Sabino Canyon. I understand erosion has made the area near Hutch's pool very unattractive. Catalina State Park trails are open, not sure the state of lets say Romero Canyon above the pools, that area did burn. Northeast side Mt Lemmon trails are open, Butterfly, Bear Wallow but still are recovering from a burn the previous year. I do not know about Rincon Mtn trails, Tucson mtns and low desert hikes are all open as usual as far as I know. The snow birds are here so expect plenty of company on the open trails.

not sure on mt lemmon i know the lower area's such as sabino canyon were not affected, however there are other great places around tucson that you can hike that haven't been affected at all like wasson peak, and the rincon's.
