Do you remember when batteries were leakproof ?
I remember when leakproof batteries hadn't been thought of,
and they made even more mess than this

Yeah, I remember when batteries "went bad" and you would be lucky if it didn't destroy whatever item you had them in. Those were the days when we just threw 'em in the trash. Also the days when we had lead paint chips, asbestos everywhere, secondhand smoke, burned leaves out at the curb in front of the house, and pot holes identified with little kerosene lamps (unattended). Amazing any of us lived to tell the tale. Then again, as kids, we grew up with enough sense to not eat paint or screw around with kerosene lamps.

Lead paint chips ? I grew up in a builders yard. We had drums of red lead, white lead and yellow lead for adjusting the properties of paint. Finely divided powder. We dipped in our hands and feet, and used it for war paint. There were lead sheets for making toy boats, and lengths of lead pipe that had to be swung round as fast as possible to see how many times it would wrap round the apple tree, after which we ate the apples with hands made black by the lead. It's a good thing this happened in the 1940s, because if it was today, I'd be an idiot by now.
