Haigler Falls??

Post by platypusx »

Long story, mostly with unimportant information. Question at end.

I was fishing a very remote stretch of Haigler Creek today (oops, it's past midnight, yesterday) east of Chamberlain Trail (FS 200). The road that got me there was listed on my Magellan Mapsend as FS 768. It's posted on the trail as 848. TOPO doesn't have a name for it at all and neither does my Tonto NF map. Mapsend shows it going approx 4.5 mi to FS 411. The others show it stopping at the creek. You need to have a narrow 4X4 (or a very soon to be badly scratched up one) with high clearance. I didn't want anymore scratches and my four wheel drive truck has a whopping 6.7" clearance and just doesn't cut it. So I used my go-cart. The best part was strapping a scared lab/shepard mix into the passenger seat and keeping him from jumping out and crawling onto my lap while I'm trying to drive. : dog :

Anyway, I fished approximately a little over 1/4 mile upstream from where I parked to where the stream seamed to by dying out (34.14.042, 110.55.768). There really wasn't anymore fish and the water wasn't as much flowing downstream as it was bubbling from out of the ground. I didn't bother going around the next bend to see the last of the springs.

Anyway (again) about an hour later a caravan of jeeps (5-6) drove by the creek on the road, eventually staining the water since the "road" crossed the creek. I assumed that the caravan was a 4X4 or jeep club and came home to see if I could find a club with a schedule of events. I didn't find a club that had this particular ride listed (there were some clubs that didn't have a calendar of events that I could find).

I did find a couple of jeep tour sites (probably the same company) that listed one of their tours as Haigler Falls and Young Trail. http://www.arizonatrails.com/jeeptours.asp http://www.paysonjeeptours.com/tours.htm The trail was obviously the one that I was on.

Question. Is there a waterfall(s) at Haigler Creek? The pictures on the second URL of "Haigler Falls" don't seem very impressive. I can imagine that in the springtime there would be plenty more water running through the creek but I don't think that it would make the elevation drops any more "waterfall" like.

If I missed them, Where are they at??? :?:
