Largo/Lanphier Canyon Loop--Blue Primitive Area

I'm planning to backpack the Largo/Lanphier Canyons loop in the Blue Primitive Area, with a side hike to Bear Mtn. Friday March 24-Sunday Mar. 25. Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Nearest town, Alpine, AZ.

We will meet in Springerville on Friday March 24, late morning, at Safeway. Exact time and details later. We will carpool from there if at all possible.

This is a fairly rugged backpacking trip of about 18 miles, plus the side hike to Bear Mtn, another 3 miles or so. I have not hiked the whole loop before, so part of it is exploratory for me. There is a good write up of this hike on this website. This hike is not suitable for beginners. I usually like to keep up a moderate-to-quick pace. so if you are a slow hiker, or one who stops to photograph constantly this one is not for you. (We will stop and take a few photos, just not every 5 minutes!)
