Rainy summer in the White Mtns.

Post by azbackpackr »

It has been raining up here almost every day for over a month. The cinder hills are green, the wildflowers are blooming, but most of the tourists have left. And at my job at the grocery store I hear a lot of complaints from the tourists that have stayed. Like we could stop the rain for them? Or that any of the locals would want it to stop after what we've been through with the long drought? I heard a long-term forecast that we could possibly have this weather pattern for another six weeks.

Despite the fact that I'll melt if I get wet, I've been able to stay in shape. Early in the morning it usually isn't raining, that's when I go for a bike ride or hike.

It is beautiful up there right now. I spent last weekend in Pinetop. We attempted to bike Los Burros, but the trail was too wet. On Sunday we hiked the Mt Baldy Loop. I couldn't believe all of the mushrooms! Must have seen 50 different kinds! The meadows were ridiculously green and there were streams and rivers flowing everywhere! The heck with the tourists; I didn't want to leave!
