Please Boycott Phoenix Summit Challenge

Post by k9hiker »

Hi folks,

Not sure how many of you have heard but the City of Phoenix has officially stolen the Phoenix Summit Challenge from Ms. Carla Olson, it's creator and organizer during the 2005 ad 2006 PSCs.

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-08- ... ake-a-hike

If this doesn't get your blood boiling then I don't know what will. Some of us that support Carla are trying to get the word out to all outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are interested in the PSC or not you need to know what the City of Phx is doing. Please spread the word loudly to all that will listen, every taxpayer should know about this unethical and dishonest act. I encourage you to write or call the Natural Resources Div. and voice your opinion.
natural.resources.pks@phoenix.gov or 602-495-5458.

Thank you

I couldn't get the news article link to open, either on this site or on the other site where you posted it. Not sure if it's just my slow dial-up. Anyone else with this problem?

Link works fine for me. Sad story. Phx should realize that an event like this, like the PFChangs Marathon will ultimately benefit the city if they just structure the contract correctly (and mostly stay out of the way). I'm sure that it can be an actual revenue-producer for maintenance and upkeep of city trails. Unfortunately, when the government gets involved, chances are lots of money will be spent and nothing positive will ever happen.

Thanks for the link to the article.

The originator of this event has donated a great deal of money from the event to benefit trails across the city of phx. How much do you think that the city will put back into those trails?

I'm all for the boycott. I've volunteered for the event before, but I wouldn't think of it with the event in the city's dirty little hands.

You can go to Carla's webpage for the event and read her letter to the City Attorney, that will explain everything in more detail than the New Time artical.

Today's Arizona Republic has an article on the event. No mention at all of Carla Olson in the history. The author of the piece takes credit for coming up with the idea.

I've met both Nate and Carla, they're both very dedicated to what they do. Unfortunately, Carla is really dedicated to this event, and "Ranger Nate" is dedicated to stealing it. It's fortunate that we can expect so much from our public officials. I mean, you just don't normally see that kind of commitment to thievery.

I know John Stanley and he is not a scumbag. I'm not sure about his claim but really that isn't the issue. I may have had the idea for sliced bread but since I didn't actually do anything with that idea I have no rights to it. So even if John thought it up, it's no matter. Carla saw it through and made it happen. It's her gig.

The true enemy here is the City of PHx Parks Dept. let's stay focused on them.
