Trailheads within one mile of I-17 between PHX and Flagstaff

Post by montezumawell »

:?: A couple of friends and ourselves have been carrying on a running discussion over the last few days about just how many trailheads exist within one mile of I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff.
Obviously, Badger Springs is the first that comes to mind. Rattlesnake probably qualifies and maybe the Old Blue Grade off the Rocky Park exit. Mangums list the General Crook Trail up Copper Canyon (Page 102 of the 6th edition). True, it's less than a mile from the I-state but you have to drive miles to get there. Theoretically, Kelly and James Canyon might count, too, even though you couldn't honestly call their access points a 'trailhead.' The Flagstaff Urban Trails System access points don't count. Ditto with whatever might be inside that fee area at Pioneer town, or whatever they call it. (Between Phoenix, proper, and Anthem.) Well, it sure seems like there ought to be some more trailheads but we sure are having a hard time thinking of them. What do you think?
