Carefree/Cave Creek

Post by grandedoozer »

I just moved into an apartment complex on Carefree Highway just east of I-17... any recommended hikes near me?

For this one I would suggest the Regions Map

Lots of hikes near you. You pick.
Look at the Spur Cross Area. Maybe Elephant Mountain and some nearby hikes. Black Mountain is a nice little workout hike.

I went out to Bronco Trail today but got rained/sleeted out. Returning this Weds, Thurs or Fri when sun comes back out. Want to join me?

That is in the Seven Springs Area north of Carefree. Quite a distance from Carefree Highway & I-17. If you're going that far, I suggest heading up to Seven Springs for Cave Creek Trail #4.

Closer to your apt would be the Cave Creek Regional Park and the Go John Trail. I would also suggest some of the trails out of the Spur Cross TH. Look at Elephant Mountain.

It used to be that you could get an annual license for State Trust Land for $15 and hike on all of that State Land. I heard they raised the annual fee to $50. Makes me think about getting a varmint hunting license instead. If they stop me without a rifle, I'll just explain that I'm scouting.
