Heiroglyphic Trail Problem

Post by desertSol »

:?
I am new to this board, so forgive me if this has been covered.
I have been wanting to do the Heiroglyphic trail for some time. My husband and I tried to go last spring, but we were turned away at the trailhead parking by a guy claiming to own the land and not liking the hikers there. He actually set up shop right at the trailhead to yell at hikers. He told us that even the Gold Canyon visitor's center had been sending people to this trailhead and its not officially a trailhead. And he could have us arrested for being there. We've been a little timid about going back ever since.
Has anyone run into this guy or heard anything about this? The last thing I want to do is break the law!
Thanks in advance...hoping someday to make it to see the wonderful petroglyphs!!!!!

Chelby,

That character is (or was) legally right and I can't guarantee he won't be back there, but I don't think he's been a problem for some time now. The Superstition Area Land Trust may just have struck some kind of deal with him since they just finished a 10+ mile new trail that goes right through there.

The good news is that even if you drove out there with the remote possibility that he was there, there is now another brand new trail you could take instead if you had too. It is the west section of the new Lost Goldmine trail that starts at the west end of Cloudview Rd. and starts north.

I have been advised by Pinal County there is public access (easement) to this trailhead. For additional information contact Pinal County Supervisor's office at 480-982-0659.
