Suggestions Needed For A 4 Day Trip

Post by DesertRatW3 »

I am moving in September and have scheduled 4 days for a final AZ backpacking trip. July 24-27

Of course, I'm also looking to get out of the Phx heat. If you had one or two must-dos in AZ, where would it be? I'm interested in either a full four days, or splitting up two locations with two days each.

Thanks!

Mainstem Black River from Wildcat Crossing bridge upstream as far as you want to go. Map is Hoodoo Knoll. Also, Hannagan Meadow and Buffalo Crossing maps will be helpful, plus of course the Apache-Sitgreaves NF map. If you plan to do this, let me know and I'll also let you know the general location of the swimming holes. Get the maps first, though. Hard to describe swim holes without the maps.

Be prepared by wearing old hiking boots or old tennis shoes, or some sort of water shoes, as most of the hiking involves crossing the river many times. This is not as bad as it sounds, it starts to get fun after awhile. The river is mostly about knee-to-thigh deep at the crossings, a little slippery, too, so using two hiking poles is very helpful.

A good side hike off this route is Fish Creek Trail, where you could go up a few miles and camp, then go back to the river.

This is summer heaven, in my book. There are so many pretty places to stop and camp you will have a hard time deciding.

You could always do the Highline...51 miles. Would be a pretty easy trip for 4 days...

TrailDex...check it too. I searched for backpacking trips 25+ miles that are idea for July, and it gave me 5...
