I've been looking through Trail DEX trying to find a route for a January backpacking trip for my brothers birthday... I have mostly backpacked around Payson, but am looking for something for the winter months. Does anyone have any recommendations for a Mid January trip, around 15 miles, with a reliable water source? Would like to stay closer to Phoenix but I'll take all recommendations.
Thanks everyone.

Re: January Trip Ideas
I'd suggest a backpack to Charlebois Spring, reliable spring. Alternatively you could hike to Battleship. I'd expect there to be water in the creek there.

I agree Charlebois is a good option. From the Peralta TH, take the Dutchmans Trail. Come back on the Bluff Springs Trail.

Re: January Trip Ideas
I have been looking into the options and I think I can make this work. We will have a group of 4-5 people. I have never been in the area, can anyone confirm that water will be available @ Charlebois Spring?
Thanks everyone.

Re: January Trip Ideas
There is relaible water at Charlebois. It's up at the base of the hill across the dry creekbed. You'll be able to hear it.

Re: January Trip Ideas
I think our planned route will be to start at Peralta TH to Charlebois Spring, and then continue on Dutchman to Terrapin Trail #234 to come back to Peralta. Any thoughts or other recommendations on this planned route?

Re: January Trip Ideas
I'd say you have a good itenerary, Charlesbois and LaBarge will be your only good water sources unless the weather does something drastic in the next week. If Charlesbois is crowded, you could fill up there and camp on the Dutchman somewhere.

Re: January Trip Ideas
Anyone has any additional information on this planned trip given the current weather conditions. Never been out to the Superstitions, not sure what to expect given weather rain, etc. Any insight? Thanks Everyone, you all Rock.
