Most all the roads in the park are closed right now due to flooding/mud slides/ snow. I know several of us are planning trips over there and probably most of it will be cleaned up depending on weather and NPS resources. Saline Valley is pretty much cut off right now, as is the Racetrack area, Scotty's Castle etc.
So check road status before you go.

In response to RedRoxx44:
Thank you for the heads-up. I've been too concerned with my daily itinerary in DVNP and not (until now) concerned about driving there  ! Through traffic on sections of SR178 ( Badwater Rd) and the main highway SR190 fm Stovepipe Wells to SR127 (Death Valley Junction) is presently closed.. http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/do9map.htm I will now need to follow this link closely.

Every time I try to visit Death Valley, I get blocked by flooding.

Re: Death Valley travel alert
I was in Death Valley from 1/13 to 1/ 18 - hiking was great although it was a bit chilly and windy. I bolted for AZ when I heard the weather reports and predicted storms. Actually drove out Badwater Road, then down and through Mojave on the way back.
Sounds like I got out just in time.

Re: Death Valley travel alert
Just back--
Most park roads should be open as of this time unless new storms screw it up. My road report--
Steel Pass---good condition 2wd HC except need 4wd low for the entrance to Dedeckra Canyon
Lippincott-- standard, one narrow area for full size and 4wd lo for a short rough section esp if climbing out.
Eureka Dunes--- washboard and a few mud holes north side dunes.
Saline Valley road---badly washboarded and a few mud holes near the Salt Lake
Lots of construction on the road to Scotty's Castle, mult spots so lots of stop and go.
Racetrack, Uhebe Crater--- some storm damage but passable HC behind the Crater area.
Jail Canyon road in the Panamints---2wd HC a couple of easy to bypass washouts.
Gasoline-- Regular only at Stovepipe Wells, Furnace Creek also has hi- test but pay at the pump was down so bring cash just in case. Don't ask about price.
Lots of snow on high and lots of water on the playas. I had a great trip, report to come later.

Re: Death Valley travel alert
Thanks Letty for the road reports. There will be a HAZ Expedition into Death Valley a week from now with Trail Canyon, Eureka Singing Dunes, and the Racetrack amongst the much anticipated "eye candy" sites we hope to experience first hand. Looking forward to this trek!
