An Ode to Royalty ever so grand

Post by BobP »

We started with a chill
and then the blistering heat built.
Our bedroom is made of rock
and our ceiling is filled with stars.
One can now dream pleasant dreams
because the nightmare of the ledge has passed.
The morning begins with anticipation of Royalty.
We descend the canyon and see a lone hiker.
The sights and the water rejuvenate our bodies.
The hike out is pleasant until we don our heavy packs.
Nervous energy fills the trail as we approach the Rappel.
On Rappel.
The thought of a split turns my stomach and fills my every thought.
This year the road to Elves is paved with rafters.
The beauty has vanished.
The water rejuvenates our bodies but it is an empty feeling.
A night in the sand with the sound of water helps ease my fear of separation.
The Tonto became a lonely road sheltered only by my Chrome Dome.
The South Bass junction provided needed shade and companionship.
The final push to the Esplanade was cool in the waning sunlight.
The last mile and a half in complete darkness was eerily spectacular.
An approaching headlamp was a welcomed sight and my stomach turned no more.
I finally slept peacefully in a canyon so grand.
