Anyone want to go to St. Maarten in May?

Post by Davis2001r6 »

We won't be able to use our timeshare this year in St. Maarten. If anyone would like to go there I will give you a great deal on it. It's the week of May 8th to the 15th. I listed it on Ebay - Click for link -

It's a weeks stay at the cost of a weekend getaway.

Were in Italy so it's a bit hard to get to the Caribbean from here, that and I'll be deployed in Afghanistan then anyways.

I know it's a long shot posting it here but figured I would try. Maybe someone has some airline miles and wants a cheap week in St. Maarten.

Oh if only it was a matter of "want to go"!

I'd want to take a plane that flies higher off the ground. :D

The airport is right on the water, that's how they all land. There is a beach bar where the photo was taken from, they list all the planes landing that day and have the tower over some speakers so you know when one is coming in. Pretty cool standing on a beach and having a 747 land 40' on top of you.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Its the most famous airport for plane "spotters" in the world because you can get so close to the "action".

If you're interested, there's quite a few photos and videos on the web of planes that land and take-off very close to the fence and beach there. Just search for "SXM landings" or similar. (SXM being the airport code).

(Stupid) people actually stand on the beach and let the jet-blast from a plane about to start the take-off roll knock them off their feet. I've read that besides it knocking an adult off the ground, its a sand-blasting experience that your skin will never forgive you for.

Mike, we went to Antigua one year but that was it. Have gone to St. Maarten the last 5 years, it's by far our favorite island.

Chumley, yes it's pretty funny to see people get blasted on take-off. You can quickly tell that it was a bad idea once the sand starts blowing, they usually end up going for a swim.
