Re: Best Mexican Restaurant in the Safford area
Thanks for the list! I've only tried El Coronado and El Charro. I liked El Coronado a lot, but I might have been biased by four days on the trail before each of my visits.

Good man Preston, you started the thread as threatened => http://hikearizona.com/TL.php?ID=53644
My sample size is n=1 and the "eats" were from Chalo's. Your description would be "kind" in my books. Let's just say "Lord of the Flies" is recommended reading during our dining experience...

I was tempted by Los Jilbertos, but also wary. I'll give it a try next time.

I've eaten at Casa Manana a couple of times. My review: Decent food, no liquor license.
There are just two switchbacks left. And another half-mile to the destination...

Is the El Charro out there owned by the Flores family that owns the ones here in Tucson?

Re: Best Mexican Restaurant in the Safford area
Somebody told me it was, although I can't verify. As of my last trip, I have finally eaten at all the Tucson locations, including the one on Speedway that isn't there any more. Mrs. big_load liked the Safford one so much that we went there again directly after our last Galiuros trip, without even washing up first. She won't normally even visit a fast food drive-through without being presentable.jeffmacewen wrote:Is the El Charro out there owned by the Flores family that owns the ones here in Tucson?

Have to second the recommendation for Los Jilbertos in Safford if you are looking for fast food or takeout. Super inexpensive and very good!

For a sit down I like El Coronado, best tacos & salsa in town! And for on the go I like Los Jilbertos. Cheap, huge portions & tasty (I have become quite fond of their fish burritos!).
