Bright Angel Death March II: The Canyon Strikes Back

Post by Jim »

The hike on the 5th was a rousing success, so I think I'll do it again. Bright Angel Death March Two, and this time it's personal.

Anytime from the 11th to the 14th is fine for me, but I will post the day for the 14th, as that one is currently most convenient. Post here with a preferred day if you are interested.

It took me about 8 1/2 hour of hiking to do this on the 5th, and I spent 2 hours or so at Bright Angel Creek. This will be a swimming hike, since there is no sense in ignoring the cool waters of the clear running creek when it should hopefully still be near 100.

I like your plan! I'll be making my first trip to the North Rim this weekend. I've been to the South Rim a bunch of times. If you don't me asking roughly how long of a drive is it to the North Rim from downtown Flagstaff?

Have a great trip and I'm sure you'll see a lot less people along the River. The top will be a zoo!

Thanks

3 1/2 to 4 hours, roughly.

It looks like I won't need to carry more than 2 liters of water and bring 2 containers with me when I do this, since there is water frequently along the trail. My guess is that these are taps with potable water like you might find high on the rim, so no filter will be needed.

Oh, and Sunday looks better so I'll go that day.

Schedule changes, not sure when I will go up again exactly, but I'll probably just solo again.

Jim, you should try the Hermit, if you haven't already. There is filterable water at Hermit Creek camp.
