Mount Ord Camping

Post by searscr »

My wife and I are planning to hike up, and camp on top of Mount Ord via Slate Creek trailhead. Our problem is that she will not get off work until noon, which would put us at the trailhead after 2:30, so it is unlikely that we will make the summit by nightfall. My question is: are there places to camp one the trail?

You're actually not allowed on the summit before I think 8-9am...you will be yelled at  There are places to camp along the way close to the trail.

You wouldn't want to camp at the top anyways. There's a ton of electrical equipment that makes a constant hum and you'll soon forget you're in the wilderness. If I were you, I'd come up with better plans. The camp spots on the way are right along the trail and nothing spectacular-- though you might find yourself glowing in the dark if you spend too much time near the old uranium mines :o . If you are looking to do an easy backpack and camp in that area, you might check out the Little Saddle Mountain trail. There's some really nice camping spots along the way and you're usually pretty secluded on that trail. :)

or actually you might go up Barnhardt. There's a bunch of great spots after you hit the Divide trail. Seriously, though, if you try to camp on top of Ord-- you'll wish you hadn't.
