Edge of the Cedars Park/Mueseum Blanding, Utah
Just wanted to get the word out. I'm not sure how many have visited the Edge of the Cedaes museum in Blanding, Utah, but, it has made the short list of parks to be closed in Utah. This museum has one of the best collections of Anasazi pottery in the country. It houses most of the items that come out of Grand Gulch and Cedar Mesa outside of the big museums back east. It certainly puts the museum at Mesa Verde to shame! Please contact the "political leaders" in Utah, if you want to see it remain open. I'm not sure how much politicians listen to the little people anymore, but, we've got to try!

Ok. I passed by it before without having time to stop and have heard it is awesome. Can you post some links for us to legislators in Utah?
Incidentally, if you like this sort of thing: Not well known unless you are into it, but on the campus of Western New Mexico Univ. in Silver City (southwestern New Mexico) there is a marvelous museum collection of Mimbres pottery you will not see the like of anywhere else.

I will get the links posted ASAP. And thanks for the heads up on the museum at Silver City. We try to hit them everywhere we can. Unfortunately, some of the best are in Chicago and New York. They have the greatest collections of Anasazi items, but much is in storage and is unavailable for viewing.

What a shame. I haven't been there yet, but I hope to do so eventually. I spent a day and a half in Silver City a couple years ago and somehow missed that museum too. I'll be sure to check it out next time.

Edge of the Cedars is a remarkable place. Since they are a federal repository, that complicates a shut down. The stuff would have to go someplace. I wonder if the Utah legislators know that.

We were discussing that same issue and what was planned for the collection and storage of it. They are scheduled to be receiving the large amount of items confiscated in the raids around Blanding two years ago. What is expected to come from the FBI is expected to fill the storage they have. If you ever have the oppurtunity to view the items in their repository area, it is well worth the time. Some of the items will leave you speechless.
