Coconino and Kaibab NF fire restriction end tomorrow, but more importantly, in the text of the notice the releases mentions that the Bill Williams Mountain Watershed will be re-opened, meaning it was closed. I had no idea of this. According to their twitter page, an announcement was made on the 23rd that the watershed would close on Saturday 6/25. A press release was posted in the Kaibab news feed on their FS page, but it didn't work properly. On the 1st, they issued a second release reminding us of the watershed closure. To clarify, the closure included all of Bill Williams Mt. Did anyone even know about this?
I don't object to it, it looks like they're trying to protect the mountain from what has happened to Elden, Kendrick, much of the Peaks, and part of Sitgreaves as well as a few other areas on the Coconino, and also spare Williams from what has happened the last year to Doney Park. Also, they have plans to thin and treat the mountain so it won't happen. Again, it would be nice if the Coco thinned and treated the Dry Lake Hills, but.....
Good thing I didn't decide to drive back out to Williams to hike the Benham Trail, as I was considering doing over the holiday weekend.

Re: Did anyone even know about this?
I found out after I drove all the way from Phoenix to the TH two weeks ago
. My wife and I were getting out of the car and a forest worker came over to us and said "you're not going to hike today, are you?". We ended up hiking Kendrick Peak instead. I'm glad too, after I found out that there is a road you can just drive up to Bill Williams

Jim, is your new profile photo trying to send us a message? ;)
