Suggest some trip idea's
I know this is kind of a real general request, but this is the general section so....I will be running the green river through desolation canyon and taking out on sept 21st or 22nd. Don't have to be back home till around the 1st of October. I will be picking up my vehicle in Moab after running the river. Any suggestions on what to do or where to go and what to see between when I get off the river on the 22nd and needing to be home on the 1st? Would like to mostly to car camp out of my truck but am open to backpacking suggestions. Thanks for any suggestions you would like to offer

For ashort dayhike near Moab to a huge arch without having to go into Arches NP, check out Corona Arch....do it on a weekday and you may very well have it to yourself! http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1928 There's tons and tons of great stuff around Moab. Behind the Rocks looks like a great area too, I haven't gotten in there though. Oh yeah, go get this book: http://hikearizona.com/books.php?REV=1&ID=960&STu=48 My dad has it and all the hikes we've done in it are KILLER

Re: Suggest some trip idea's
I agree with Hippie: You could spend 1-2 days hiking in Arches National Park.
In the area are also:
Cameltoe Canyon
Corona Arch (HPP's mention)
Morning Glory Arch
Professor Creek - hike up from the bottom
On the way back (sorta):
Mule Canyon
Arch Canyon
A little out of the way:
Anywhere in Canyonlands-Needles.
Moab is a haven for mountain bikers and jeepers.

Behind the Rocks is a jeep and mtn. bike area, very busy.

Re: Suggest some trip idea's
If you have 4wd do the Island in the Sky loop, lots of good short hikes along that, views of the Green, some arches and nice camping.
I'd run over to Hanksville, go out of there to the Angel Point TH, put on a pack and go up the Robbers Roost Canyon system off the Dirty Devil RIver for a few days. Water, sandstone, primitive campsites and usually some solitude especially up near some of the branch heads. There is some canyoneering that goes on from the upper reaches but this area is still pretty mellow by visitor standards. At this time of year the Dirty Devil should be easily crossed.
Then I'd mosey down Hwy 95 through North Wash ( always think of Ed Abbey when I drive this way and his stories along the Jeep trail of North Wash) some mega scenic driving toward Lake Powell. Lots of slots along there you can hike up some, although most are technical on up. The Black Hole is really fun but you want high daytime temps for that one, it's not technical. After you cross the bridges at the hite area, if you head toward I think the White Canyon lake access, you can get back there and hike up White Canyon aways till you go under the bridge, it's a very pretty narrow deep canyon with a few pools and narrows to scramble around. Not sure if the lake is at full pool how far it backs up there.
On down 95, White Canyon is big and impressive and has several access points for the casual wanderer. Natural Bridges is a good place if you like big bridges, ruins and canyons.
Then go across the Cedar Mesa. Stop in at the Kane Gulch Ranger station. You can do several day hikes to avoid the backpacking permit or do a short/long backpack here if you can get a walkin permit. Endless choices, the main Grand Gulch by several TH's, Road Canyon, Owl and Fish loop, Slickhorn complex.
Great car camping at Muley Point or if cold go on down to Valley of Gods or at the Goosenecks Overlook. Then through Mexican Hat and onto Monument Valley, iconic picture classic opportunity.
Continue back toward Page.
Well, that's more driving than hiking I guess but it's a great trek if you have the time. There is some good stuff if you go south of Moab around Blanding too.
