A PDF fact sheet that tells all about the project: http://www.overtheriverinfo.com/media/u ... L-8-11.pdf

Still deciding how I feel about it.

If it doesn't harm the environment and brings business to possibly struggling river running companies, I might be in favor of it. On the other hand, I do question how many of us, if paying for a commercial river trip, would want to see a bunch of man-made junk hanging overhead. I wouldn't. But if it draws a certain class of people (effete New Yorkers?) for that brief two weeks and does no harm, I'm all for jobs for river guides...

(effete New Yorkers?) ... :sl:
I've always have had mixed fellings about Christo, some things are cutting edge, but that was years ago when it was fresh.
Now it just seems to be grandstanding and at $50 million that's quite a chunk of change. But hey it's his money and I can think of worse uses of it.
It'll be interesting to see how much of that projected $121 million goes into conservation or just more politicos pockets.

Spending millions of dollars to put tinsel over a perfectly good river seems like a waste of money to me... Before I realized how expensive this project was, I was going to say it was better than dying the river green and having men in kilts parading down the streets... Now I'm not so sure.

Maybe the New Yorkers will like it!

Yeah, why not spend the money for a good cause?

Love art and love nature. I am jaded on this one... Ultimately, going down both sides of the argument I am for it as long the proceeds find their way back into the parks system. If it has the effect of drawing those "Effete New Yorkers" or anyone else who would not otherwise expose themselves to this lifestyle, and a few might come away with an experience that just might draw them back. I am sure a lot of the Nay-Sayers will spend money just to come and just say nay.
