AZ to NV Vacation

Post by Hippy »

Hi everyone, the man and I are planning a trip from our home here in Phoenix on a straight shot drive to the Tahoe area in Nevada for my cousin's wedding.
We have 4-5 days (not including the 12-14 hours driving each way!)
We will have a sunday/monday and part of a tuesday to explore the area.
I poked around and found Eldorado Canyon?? And I know there are plenty of mines in the area and Virginia City is great to visit...but we want canyons, caves, slot canyons in the lake...anything wild and exciting that will get our blood boiling!

Can anyone suggest anything/anywhere to visit in the area? We are avid hikers/backpackers and will have our mountain bikes with us so we're ready for just about anything you can throw our way.

We also considered swinging through Death Valley OR Yosemite on the way up (we're leaving thursday night, would explore one of those parks on friday and be in Tahoe in time for the wedding on saturday!) so tight schedule the first few days...but after the saturday wedding we only need that 12-14 hours saved for driving...as long as we're home by mid-late afternoon tuesday.... :D

so...what in the world can we do...in Nevada...that's worth doing??? And don't say Vegas! ;)

What time of year are you talking about? Big difference between March and July...

Oh....August of course haha sorry, heat doesn't bother us, as long as we don't run into cold we are fine. But 100 degrees or 120...we don't care. I'm an AZ Native, I was born to be in the heat

I was thinking of the Arizona Hot Springs but perhaps you don't want to push the "We like it hot thing" too far, in August. We're looking at hikes in that area too. My Brother-n-Law just took a job as an electrician at the Hoover Dam, so we are expecting some hiking opportunities this season.
