Post by Dschur »

There is a new fire in the Tonto forest near Young. It is the Poco fire started 6/14/12 at 230pm and by evening was at 1000 acres... there are road restrictions and even closures can happen on Hwy 260 at Kohls Ranch.. So if heading to the Rim there you may want to keep checking on what is going on...

Is that why it is so smoky in the Valley (even central Phoenix) this morning?

it was indeed smoky as I could barely make out the McDowells coming into work this AM. Seems a long way for that smoke to travel though.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Smoke in the valley continues to get worse. I can see the difference between 10 AM and about 1 PM now.

Does anyone know what the relation of 41 Cave -- where Robert Fisher disappeared -- is to the fire zone?

41 club is on the Rez, but close to the boundary. This fire has the potential to be devastating to the most significant Karst area in Az outside of the potential in the Redwall in northern az. It will be a major concern to keep several caves from silting up, and in fact some may be destroyed as is the cycle of nature with man's hand in it. :(
