Lightning Fire near Fox Mountain - Rincons
There's a lightning-caused fire burning near Sycamore Canyon just NE of Fox Mountain on the "backside" of the Rincons. They're trying to get it under control before it burns into Espiritu Canyon. If the fuel load is anything like it was the last time I went through there...we definitely don't want it in that canyon!!

FOX FIRE UPDATE
June 19, 2012: 9:00 a.m.
Location:
§ Santa Catalina Ranger District of the Coronado National
Forest
§ Rincon Mountain Wilderness
§ Approximately 5 miles southwest of Cascabel, AZ
Start Date: June 16, 2012
Size: approximately 3400 acres
Cause: lightning caused
Percent Contained: 10%
Resources Assigned:
§ Firefighters: eight crews
§ Engines: two
§ Water tenders: four
§ Fixed-wing aircraft: one air attack platform, two lead planes,
three air tankers (which may be called to other incidents if needed)
§ Helicopters: three
§ Miscellaneous overhead: 13
§ Total personnel: 185
Summary: Fire is burning in a remote area of the Rincon Wilderness in
extremely steep and rocky terrain. Fuels include brush and juniper, which
are dry and volatile. Management objective is full suppression. Due in
part to cooler temperatures, fire activity decreased overnight, with
movement to the south and west for a gain of about 200 acres. Rates of
spread have decreased from what they were in previous operational periods.
The east side has been slowed due to sparse fuels and wide drainages. The
fire is currently backing downslope into canyons to the south and
southwest. Crews are continuing line construction to the southwest, and
are working on the northwest corner to keep it from entering Espiritu
Canyon and Saguaro National Park. As it burns into lower elevations,
firefighter access is improved. This combination of factors is leading to
more successful firefighting efforts. Structure protection is available
for ranch buildings in the area. For further information please visit
