Due to the Sunflower Fire, Tonto National Forest has closed a significant portion of the Sycamore Creek drainage downstream. The closure will be in effect until July 31, 2012.
(Note, this area is currently closed under a larger FS-closure order due to fire danger. If the fire danger closure is lifted, the area will remain closed due to the flooding danger).

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Re: Sycamore Creek area closure / Flood Danger
As soon as the July 31st closure ended I made plans for some extreme four-wheeling to a remote hike in the area... unfortunately I didn't check with the FS before heading out this morning only to find the gate locked.
What a waste of time and gas! :-({|=
So on the way back home I stopped at the Mesa FS office only to find even though it wasn't posted on the web until today, a new closure order was issued 7/30, closing the same area until August 22, unless terminated sooner. I won't be holding my breath though, my gut says it will very likely be extended again.
