Posted on the FS website October 17, 2012:
A volunteer cleanup event will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012, 8 am – 2 pm in the Four Peaks-Sugar Loaf areas on the Tonto National Forest.

“When we held this event last year, volunteers removed almost 20 tons of trash and debris from the forest,” said Mesa district ranger Gary Hanna. “We will again focus our clean-up efforts in the Sugarloaf and Four Peaks areas east and west of Highway 87.”

Volunteers should bring snacks and water, wear closed-toe shoes, long pants/long sleeve shirts, and bring gloves. “Since we will be working to picking up debris in shooting pits near Sugar Loaf, it would helpful if volunteers could also bring rakes, shovels, and magnetic brooms,” Hanna said.

The volunteer registration area is approximately .5 mile east of Highway 87 on Four Peaks Road. Follow Highway 87 north to the Four Peaks Road (mile marker 204), turn right (east) on Four Peaks Road and follow the registration signs to get your assignment.

The event is organized by the Copper State 4 Wheelers Coordinator Chad Chaney.

“We are very grateful for the leadership of the Copper State 4-Wheelers in spearheading this event. Our staffing is limited and the support of volunteers is invaluable to us,” continued Hanna. “Other community volunteers and organizations have also greatly helped us by providing resources.”
