Grand Canyon Inversion

Post by chumley »

Apparently this only happens a couple of times a year in the Grand Canyon, and only about once a decade as significantly as it did yesterday.

Photos from the Grand Canyon facebook page are shown on this Daily Mail page.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... menon.html

For those with a FB account, you can find them there as well at https://www.facebook.com/GrandCanyonNationalPark

Woulda been a great day to be there yesterday! I especially like the views of the desert facade from Desert View. Comanche Point out to Cape Solitude with clouds in the canyon below? Awesome! :)

I saw Whit's photo on Facebook - the now famous one - and ran out to Yavapai Point to take a look and snap a couple quick photos of my own. Very cool.

Was hiking in the canyon once when there was a forest fire raging on the North Rim. Early in the morning the cool air in the canyon was pulling the smoke over the rim and it looked like a smoke waterfall.

@cactuscat
Cool. I'm glad you made it out with your camera. I was wondering if any of the hazzers who call the canyon home would have gotten to see it! :)

It's happening again today - I can barely see the house across the street from mine.

this phenomenon went down - and looking back i can appreciate how fortunate we were to see it - on our first evar trip to GC. i'd have to guess that was back in or around 80/81.
